Students Tardy to School

Please remember that student arrival begins at 8:35 a.m. and our final bell rings at 8:45 a.m. If your student is not in the room and in his/her seat ready to learn when the final bell rings, he/she will be marked tardy. When students arrive late, they miss out on our morning meeting and essential instructions to the day’s lesson. A top priority at our school is student achievement and maximizing instructional minutes. Tardies are a major disruption to the learning environment and student learning. In addition, the learning stops while the tardy student settles into his/her seat. This can significantly reduce achievement, regardless of academic ability. Your child may also feel awkward arriving to the classroom when everyone else is settled. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory and we are expecting wind chills 20 to 30 below zero and as low as 55 below zero Tuesday night through Thursday afternoon. Based upon these factors we will NOT have school on Wednesday, January 30th, and Thursday, January 31st. Please use caution if you should need to go outside. In addition, all after-school activities for today, January 29th, are canceled as well. We will be communicating makeup days in the coming days. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Transportation Information - Please remember

Per District Policy, students who ride the bus must be at the designated school bus stop five (5) minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. Make sure your children leave home on time so they can arrive at the bus stop before it is due. Running after or in front of a bus is dangerous. Students should not wait in the car until the bus arrives! Students must be at their assigned bus stop ready to board the bus. They cannot get on the bus at another bus stop

Lunchroom News

It is WPS’s policy that all students have sufficient time to eat. The daily lunch and recess block is 40 minutes in length. Generally, students split their lunch block so that they have 20 minutes to eat and 20 minutes to play at recess. Nevertheless, if students need more than 20 minutes to eat, they may have up to 30 minutes (knowing they will sacrifice play time at recess). While no student will be forced from the lunchroom while dining, sometimes students feel pressured by their peers to hurry their lunch so they can rush outside to play. If your students feel they do not have sufficient time to eat, reassure them they can stay in the lunchroom, even though their peers may be leaving for the playground. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the office.
